Two Fun Ways to Upgrade Your Trail Experience

Trails provide a wide variety of benefits such as exercise and easy access to nature. They are also becoming known for adventure, fun, and creativity! Check out these exciting ways past, present, and future clients are upgrading their trail experiences.

#1 Add a Disc Golf Course

During lockdown from Covid, Disc Golf (also known as Frisbee Golf) became a very popular pastime. Since that time, it continues to rise in popularity and we are seeing courses pop up all over.

The sport is similar to golf, in that you count your throws, and have different types of discs for long throws, chips, and putts. Tees can be staggered depending on ability. Holes are removable baskets that mount in a buried pipe. You can even track your handicap just like golf.

Recently, I was invited to play on a course in Carson City with a Disc Golf Architect. He was looking to partner with a professional trail builder to elevate his courses by using a trail as a means to guide players through a course rather than walking undirected across the public landscape.

What a cool concept and interesting way to experience the trail through this new activity.

As we were conjuring up ideas it became clear that many of our current clients could easily adapt their trails with disc golf “ tees” and “greens.” This type of course provides an event, something to do, something to aim at, and something to chase, as you walk along the trail.

We are imagining many of our clients are having fun inviting their kids, grandkids, friends, and neighbors over for a friendly game of disc golf!

#2 Incorporate a 3D Archery Range

Imagine strolling through your very own breathtaking walking trail where life-size and lifelike 3D targets like Bigfoot await your skilled arrows. Feel the rush as you test your archery prowess, navigating through challenging terrain and realistic shooting scenarios. Engage your senses and elevate your outdoor experience to new heights. Adding a 3D archery course transforms the ordinary boring trail into the extraordinary, offering an unforgettable fusion of nature, adventure, and archery. Step into a world where excitement meets precision—a trail like no other awaits your vision and ingenuity.

What is a walking 3D archery range?

3D archery is a form of archery that involves shooting at three-dimensional, lifelike targets. They can resemble various animals or objects. Unlike traditional target archery where participants shoot at flat paper targets, a walking 3D archery range aims to simulate real-life scenarios all while walking down a trail. The targets used in 3D archery are typically made of foam or synthetic materials and are designed to replicate the size, shape, and posture of animals, providing a more realistic and challenging experience. This form of archery requires participants to estimate distances, adjust their aim based on the target's position, and consider factors such as angles and elevation.

What Are The Benefits?

Benefit #1: Promoting Physical and Mental Well-being

Integrating a 3D walking course range into your walking trail encourages physical activity and provides an excellent opportunity for exercise. Archery requires strength, focus, and coordination, making it an engaging and challenging activity. Drawing a bow, aiming at targets, and releasing arrows engages various muscle groups, promoting strength and dexterity. Additionally, archery is a very mentally stimulating sport, as it demands concentration, patience, and focus. They say archery is 90% mental and 10% physical.

Benefit # 2: Adding Diversity to Recreational Activities

A walking trail often offers scenic beauty and tranquility, but it may lack diversity in terms of recreational activities. Incorporating a 3D archery walking course diversifies the range of experiences available to your trail offering and appeal. It will provide a unique form of entertainment, allowing you and your guests to develop their skills and experience the excitement of hitting something! Whether it is a seasoned archer or a beginner, the inclusion of a 3D walking course adds an element of challenge and fun to the walking trail, attracting a broader audience and keeping visitors engaged for longer durations.

Benefit #3: Fostering Skill Development and Sportsmanship

Archery is not only an enjoyable pastime but also a sport that promotes skill development and sportsmanship. There is even an entire archery competition division dedicated to 3D archery called Scholastic 3D Archery, more information can be found here about it, 3D Archery Sport. Adding an archery range to your walking trail provides an opportunity for you to learn and refine archery techniques and if you want to, compete in competitions or even host your own competition on your trail. By integrating archery into your trail, you create an environment that fosters personal growth, discipline, and camaraderie.

Benefit #4: Engaging with Nature and Conservation

This is a sport that inherently connects you with nature. By including an archery range in your walking trail, you encourage everyone who walks it to engage with the natural environment. Archers must learn to adapt their shooting techniques to different terrains, wind conditions, and distances, heightening their awareness of nature's elements. Moreover, archery enthusiasts often develop a deep appreciation for wildlife, flora, and the preservation of natural habitats. By promoting this connection, your trail becomes a platform for environmental education and conservation efforts.

Benefit # 5: Building a Thriving Community Hub

Incorporating a 3D walking course into your trail has the potential to transform it into a vibrant community hub for not only your friends but also neighbors and beyond. Archery brings people together, fostering social interaction and creating a sense of belonging. Archery clubs, competitions, and fun shooting sessions can be organized, leaving a great reputation for being the host and bringing people together. Such gatherings encourage the exchange of knowledge, experiences, and camaraderie, ultimately building a strong and supportive community around your walking archery shooting course.
