Building Trails and New Beginnings: Trailscape’s East Coast Expansion

Writer: Randy MartinRandy Martin

Trailscape's Morgan Lovell’s journey is one of growth, change, and connection to the land. After relocating from California to his hometown in Maine a little over a year ago, he’s been busy running after his toddler, while also expanding Trailscape’s East Coast presence. His work is driven by a passion for creating seamless outdoor experiences, and his commitment to quality shines through in every project. Along the way, Morgan has learned valuable lessons for building something new—embracing seasonal rhythms to refine his skills, building on past experiences when expanding into new regions, and staying grounded in what inspires him. In this update, discover how Morgan is balancing his personal and professional life, while shaping new landscapes and exciting projects for the future.

Well, it's been over a year since we shared Morgan's journey as he navigated significant changes in both business and life in this blog post. Since then, his path has led him back to his roots. In the fall of 2023, Morgan relocated to his hometown of Center Lovell, Maine, embracing a return to the place that first sparked his love for the outdoors.

Morgan has been keeping busy in the mountains—quite literally. He now works with Attitash Mountain in Bartlett, New Hampshire, (pictured above) serving as their assistant snow surfaces manager. Throughout the winter months, he plays a key role in maintaining the ski trails, ensuring they remain in top condition for visitors. When the snow melts and summer arrives, Morgan shifts his focus to trail building and road maintenance for the mountain. This seasonal rhythm allows him to stay connected to the land while honing his skills in trail development.

Beyond his work at Attitash, Morgan will also be building out the East Coast division of Trailscape, bringing the same level of expertise and attention to detail that Trailscape clients have come to expect. His deep understanding of trail design and commitment to creating exceptional outdoor experiences will now extend to this new region, offering clients on the East Coast access to custom trails crafted with care and precision. With several exciting projects already in the works, he is eager to bring his expertise to new landscapes and continue crafting trails that invite people to connect with nature.

When he's not shaping trails, Morgan enjoys spending time outdoors with his wife, their two-year-old daughter, and their two dogs. Whether it's exploring the woods or simply enjoying the fresh Maine air, the family cherishes their time together surrounded by nature.

Morgan's journey offers valuable lessons for anyone building something new:

  1. Embrace Seasonal Rhythms for Skill Development:

Morgan’s work shifts between maintaining ski trails in the winter and building trails in the summer. This seasonal approach allows him to diversify his expertise while staying connected to the land. Whether you're in trail building or another industry, embracing seasonal cycles can help you refine your skills and maintain a fresh perspective.

  2. Build on Your Experience When Expanding into New Regions:

As Morgan establishes Trailscape’s East Coast division, he brings the same level of precision and care that clients expect. When expanding a business or starting new projects, leaning on established expertise while adapting to local needs can create a solid foundation for success.

  3. Stay Grounded in What Inspires You:

Despite his professional growth, Morgan remains rooted in his love for the outdoors and his family. Staying connected to what originally inspired your work can provide long-term motivation and guide your decisions as you navigate new opportunities.

These principles echo insights shared by top business leaders. In a recent article on business.com, successful CEOs emphasized the importance of staying adaptable, building on core strengths, and maintaining a clear sense of purpose. Morgan's journey reflects these same values, offering practical lessons for anyone tackling new ventures. (Source: "36 Top CEOs Share Their Secrets to Success" – Business.com)

As Morgan continues to balance his professional pursuits with family life, his commitment to fostering meaningful connections to the outdoors remains steadfast. We look forward to seeing where his trail-building journey takes him next and are excited to share more updates along the way.

Stay tuned for future stories as Morgan continues to shape the landscapes around him—both in his professional work and personal adventures. With new private trail-building projects on the horizon, there are plenty of exciting developments to come.
